After the WTF Council Meeting and General Assembly representatives of 3 International Organizations gathered at the meeting room of Vidgof Hotel in Chelyabinsk, Russia to discuss the further steps for developing of para-taekwondo in the world. Close collaboration of ETU and EPTU on the Continental level and enormous contribution of WTF resulted in tremendous result!
MNA's promote para-taekwondo within their countries, more and more athletes with different disabilities do para-taekwondo and already want to participate in international events. Statistics of European Para-taekwondo Championships shows the growth of participating countries and athletes. In 2015 EPTU suggested to hold Open Continental Championships. Besides, since 2015 para-taekwondo athletes get ranking points.
At the meeting 3 parties also discussed the upcoming para-taekwondo events this year.
The most important and ranking events are in the end of a year: G4 IWAS World Games in Sochi and G1 Russia Para-taekwondo Open in Vladikavkaz. Both events will take place in Russia and both are chances for the athletes from the whole world to get additional ranking points. 'Each point earned at International Para-taekwondo event is one more step on the way to Paralympics 2020.' - says EPTU President, Mr. Aleksandr Shlychkov.
EPTU also initiated to support the organization of the 1st European Martial Arts Championships which will be held in Armenia, Yerevan this year. Taekwondo is inside the program, and the championships are planned for 26-30 October, 2015.
Since 2014 EPTU has been organising International Classifier Courses in order to educate doctors with fluent English to classify para-taekwondo athletes. The main goal is to have at least one International Classifier in each country. That will help to develop para-taekwondo professionally in each National Federation.
Starting from 2016, EPTU will push the education programs not only for classifiers, but also for coaches, instructors, athletes and referees.
