Last weekend Prof. Fernando Akilian, WTF Para-Taekwondo Committee member, went to Guayaquil, Ecuador, for an inspection visit of the site of the 2015 4th INAS Global Games which will be held between 20 and 27 September 2015.
Prof. Akilian met with Mr. Juan Carlos Araujo, President of the Local Organizing Committee for the INAS Global Games, representatives from the Ecuador Sport Federation for the Intellectually Disabled, and the Ecuador Taekwondo Federation.
The INAS Global Games are the world's largest sport event for elite athletes with an intellectual disability. Competitions in para-taekwondo poomsae for athletes with an intellectual disability (P20) were held for the first time at the 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships in Moscow, Russia, last year.
Para-taekwondo poomsae for athletes with an intellectual disability (P20) will be included as a demonstration sport at the 2015 4th INAS Global Games. The exact date for the para-taekwondo competitions is yet to be confirmed.
Para-taekwondo athletes that want to participate in the event are required to hold a valid WTF Global Athlete License and have to be registered with INAS for provisional eligibility.
WTF Member National Associations should contact the INAS Member Organizations in their country for assistance in applying for their para-taekwondo athletes' provisional eligibility and entry into the INAS Global Games. Speaking following his visit, Prof. Akilian said: "The WTF, INAS, the Local Organizing Committee and the Ecuador Taekwondo Federation are working together to deliver a great para-taekwondo demonstration competition during the 4th INAS Global Games"
